Sensory Experience for people living with Dementia
17th January 2020 @ 10:30 am - 12:30 pm
Those of you who attended the ‘Christmas Celebrations’ will have heard about the charity ‘Playlist for Life’. Founded in 2013 by Sally Magnusson, the ‘Playlist for Life’ charity (www.playlistforlife.org.uk) is aiming to help every person with Dementia compile a playlist by the end of 2020, and for them to discover how a ‘Playlist for Life’ can help transform the lives of people living with Dementia and those who care for them. Even when people do not feel music is a major part of their life, there will be songs which remind them of things such as: singing to their children; holidays; tv theme tunes; jingles from adverts; family parties; the first dance at their wedding; or Christmas songs (whether they like them or find them irritating !). During the session in January, we will help participants to compile a playlist of memorable songs from their lifetime.
During the session, we will reminisce about the places, and ways, people have listened to music in their past. We will look at pictures of old equipment used for playing music and listen to some of the tracks participants recall, as they start to compile their lists. We hope to get these recorded for participants at a later stage.
