Ideas for dissemination: inviting over 70s to Covid-19 vaccine study
As you may have heard in the news, the COVID-19 vaccine trials in Southampton are underway. Initially, people below 55 years were invited to participate. As the trial is entering its second phase, they want to invite individuals aged 70 and above to join the trial provided they meet the following criteria:
- generally healthy (not classed as extremely vulnerable due to a medical condition); Long term conditions are sometimes ok if controlled
- NOT on immunosuppresants
- Live within 20 miles each way from Southampton (not including the Isle of Wight)
- Able to travel to visits without public transport or taxis
- Have regular access to the internet
People who meet this criteria then need to fill-in an eligibility questionnaire (https://covid19vaccinetrial.co.uk/participate-southampton) to see if they are appropriate for the trial.
COVID-19 research is happening at breakneck speed and the Southampton team is planning to vaccinate 120 over 70’s by 10th June (but they need to be screened for eligibility this week).
Do you have any ideas on how we can reach our target group at such short notice? If you do, we’d love to hear from you.
Thank you for all your help and support.
