The Green Homes Grant is an initiative to get homeowners to invest money in improving the energy-efficiency of their property – while also giving the economy a much-needed boost. Details indicate only approved and checked traders can carry out the work requested to meet the criteria.
Types of improvement that qualify for the grant are split into primary and secondary measures. The voucher must be used to install at least one primary measure which can be insulation and/or low carbon heating
After at least one primary measure has been installed, the voucher can be used to help cover the cost of a list of secondary measures which contains things like double or triple glazing, draught-proofing and energy-efficient doors.
Trading Standards are concerned that illegitimate traders may use the scheme details to exploit the trust of consumers, especially if they tempted to respond to cold callers on the doorstep offering something like ‘I can get you the deal and insulate your home cheaply thanks to the Government paying most of the bill”, and then going on to exploit that person’s trust.
There are steps that have to be followed to gain access to the Government grant and Trading Standards urge consumers to say no to cold callers or offers posted through the letterbox.
