There are a lot of opportunities out there but not everyone is looking for the same thing. Here are 4 ways to start, or continue, your volunteering journey in the Test Valley.
General opportunities on DO-IT.org
Do-it.org.uk is a dedicated website portal where charity and community groups can advertise their volunteer needs. It’s where Unity advertises for volunteers on behalf of our members. To look through the current opportunities use the link below to be taken to a list of the current opportunities in the Test Valley. Once you’re used to the site, you can even search more widely if you want to. All the advertisements give contact and application details.

Unity Projects
Due to our involvement with support groups across Test Valley and beyond, we are asked from time to time to run volunteering and support projects for third parties and very often we need volunteers to help us to run them.

Community Groups
From time to time opportunities crop up to get involved in the running of charity or community support organisations. Some of our support groups have been run by the same team for many years and may need a refresh, or further help, or just a break! The opportunities vary, but common ones are:
- Treasurer : If you have accounting experience, you’ll be really popular with our community and support groups as this is a really important job.
- Trustee or committee member: Trustees play a crucial role in looking after the interests of beneficiaries and the successful operation of the group. If you have business and management experience, you can make a real difference.
- Fundraiser: It goes without saying, that community groups need funds. If you’re used to encouraging people to donate or enjoy arranging events and activities, this is a real opportunity to make a difference and have some fun along the way.

Supported Volunteers
We’re not all blessed with unlimited confidence and sometimes life takes its toll on us. We need help to move on from setbacks, to build a CV, to grow, to recover, or just to face the world and feel useful again. Volunteering can provide a wonderful setting for all these things so it’s a win, win. Others benefit and so do you.
If you need support to get started, we can help. We can support you through your journey from the first step. If you need support send an email and we’ll be in touch.
